One of the cheapest cities to visit in high season is a two-hour drive from the Algarve: Seville has affordable hotels in summer

Seville is one of the most popular destinations for Portuguese people who want to make a short getaway with sun, heritage and gastronomy, being around a two-hour drive from the Algarve and with frequent air connections from Lisbon and Porto. The capital of Andalusia appears as an affordable alternative for family holidays, weekends with friends or plans for two.

For those who live in the south of the country, the geographic proximity makes traveling by road easier. For those leaving the two largest Portuguese cities, there are several direct air connections and round-trip prices can be below 50 euros, depending on how far in advance you book.

Affordable flights and crowd-driving heat

Even in the traditionally busiest months, flight and accommodation prices tend to remain competitive. The high temperatures that are felt in the summer in Seville end up keeping away part of international tourism, which contributes to greater availability and more contained prices.

This context allows you to plan trips during high season without facing the usual levels of crowding in other European destinations, making the city a viable option for last-minute decisions.

Between the river and the monumental squares

One of the first images that stands out when arriving at the historic center is the Guadalquivir River, which crosses the city and helps define its urban landscape. Along the banks, there are numerous terraces and pedestrian paths, and it is possible to take boat trips organized by different tour operators.

According to the blog, Plaza de España is one of the mandatory stopping points. The semicircular square, surrounded by regionalist-inspired buildings, has become one of the city’s postcards.

Gardens and historic neighborhoods

Nearby to the square lies the Parque de María Luisa, one of the main green spaces in Seville, sought after by both visitors and residents. The complex offers wooded areas, fountains and rest areas that contrast with the dense layout of the historic center.

Another place of greatest interest is the old Jewish neighborhood of Santa Cruz. The narrow streets, internal courtyards and orange trees that dot the route maintain the identity of one of the most visited areas in the city.

Among the architectural icons, the Giralda stands out, an old Muslim minaret converted into the bell tower of the Gothic cathedral. Inside the temple is the tomb of Christopher Columbus, an element that reinforces the historical weight of the monumental complex.

The Real Alcázar is also part of visitors’ usual itinerary. The palace complex, marked by Islamic and Christian influences, is one of Seville’s heritage references and complements an offer that combines history, culture and urban life in a compact radius, ideal for a long weekend.

Air travel in August

As an example, if you decide to travel by plane to Seville from Porto in August, you can find prices starting at 78 euros return. If you travel from Lisbon, prices for round trips that same month start at 64 euros. As for hotels, the Ibis Styles Sevilla City Santa Justa has prices starting at 69 euros per night, during high season.
