US War Department Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that Iran cannot surpass the US in the durability of the conflict in the Middle East and that Washington will “guarantee” this superiority.
“We will determine the pace and timing of the conflict in Iran. It could last four, five, six or even eight weeks,” said Hegeth, at a press conference at the Pentagon this Wednesday, 4. “The only limits are the desire of US President Donald Trump to achieve specific effects in the war against Iran.”
Hegseth stated that the US does not have a specific message to Tehran’s allies – such as China and Russia -, as they are “not an issue”, and that the Americans will deal with Iranian nuclear ambitions, which “sends several signals”.
The secretary also said that Washington is aware of the situation in Turkey, and that the interception of an Iranian missile by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will not trigger the group’s Article 5, which establishes collective defense and provides that an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all.
