Vitor Hugo Simonin and Bruno Felipe Alegretti presented themselves to the police this Wednesday; prisoners will be transferred to Benfica
Vitor Hugo Oliveira Simonin, 18 years old, presented himself to the 12th DP (Copacabana), in Rio, this Wednesday morning (March 4, 2026). He was one of the last fugitives accused of participating in the gang rape of a 17-year-old teenager in an apartment in Copacabana, on January 31st. Simonin arrived at the police unit accompanied by his lawyer.
Shortly afterwards, Bruno Felipe dos Santos Allegretti, also 18 years old, handed himself in at the 54th DP (Belford Roxo). With the presentations, the 4 adult defendants in the case are in court custody.
On Tuesday (Mar 3), João Gabriel Xavier Berthô at the 10th DP (Botafogo), while Mattheus Verissimo Zoel Martins handed himself in at the Copacabana police station. All defendants will be transferred to the José Frederico Marques Prison, in Benfica.
Vitor Hugo is the son of José Carlos Costa Simonin, who held the position of state undersecretary of the Secretariat of Social Development and Human Rights. The government of Rio de Janeiro under José Carlos this Wednesday.
Vitor Hugo Simonin’s defense denies participation in the crime. According to lawyer Ângelo Máximo, the young man confirms that he was in the apartment on the day of the incident, but denies having had sexual relations or committing violence against the victim.
The investigation of the case, conducted by the 12th DP, resulted in a criminal action accepted by the 1st Specialized Court for Crimes against Children and Adolescents. The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro highlights the brutality of the acts and the physical violence used against the minor.
NEW INVESTIGATIONS
The case records new developments with the emergence of two other victims between Monday (2nd March) and Tuesday (3rd March). A 17-year-old girl reported having been raped by members of the group 3 years ago, when she was 14. She stated that the crime was recorded and the images were released by the suspects.
This Tuesday, another young woman went to the police to file a report of sexual violence against Vitor Hugo Simonin. She gave a statement at the Copacabana police station accompanied by her mother.
The Rio de Janeiro Court denied the requests for you have a body presented by the defense of the accused. The process continues under judicial secrecy.
UNDERSTAND THE CASE
The (Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro) is investigating a case of gang rape against a 17-year-old teenager, which occurred on the night of January 31st, in Copacabana, in the south zone of Rio. The case is treated by the delegate of the 10th DP as a “planned ambush”.
The victim was invited by Matheus, her ex-boyfriend, to go to his friend’s apartment in Copacabana. There, while she was having sex with her ex-boyfriend, the other 3 boys entered the room.
The victim said he was slapped, punched and kicked in the abdominal region. She tried to leave the room, but was stopped by the suspects.
The results of the forensic examination indicate that the victim suffered physical violence. The expert identified internal bleeding and injuries in the genital region. Blood was also identified in the vaginal canal and stains on the back and buttocks.
