Executive secretary of the Council takes over from minister Gleisi Hoffmann, who leaves government to run for the Senate
The executive secretary of the Conselhão (Council for Sustainable Economic and Social Development), Olavo Noleto, takes over the SRI (Secretariat for Institutional Relations) on March 31st. Noleto holds the position of current minister (PT), who leaves the government to run for the Senate in Paraná.
The announcement was made at the opening of the seminar “Brazil for the Life of Girls and Women”, this Wednesday (March 4, 2026). In her speech, the minister stated: “you lose an executive secretary, but you gain a minister of great competence and sensitivity”.
In his speech at the opening of the event, Noleto stated that he worked with several ministers throughout the governments of President Lula and former President Dilma Rousseff (PT). He declared that Gleisi was one of the “greatest ministers” who have already passed by Palácio do Planalto.
Gleisi’s candidacy was a direct request from the president (PT). The information that the executive secretary would take over the ministry was released by the minister herself in January this year.
Electoral legislation determines that Gleisi will resign from office by April 4th.
Noleto has experience in the area of political articulation. He was executive secretary of the Ministry of Institutional Relations during the administration of Alexandre Padilha, current Minister of Health. After Padilha’s departure, Gleisi invited him to take over the Council, a body linked to the Presidency of the Republic.
THE SEMINAR
This Wednesday (4th March), the Council is holding, in partnership with the Ministry of Women, the seminar “Brazil for the Life of Girls and Women”, at Palácio do Planalto. The meeting marks 1 month of the signing of the a document that formalizes commitments between the Three Powers to address violence against women.
One of the highlights of the event is a table dedicated to men called “Men for the lives of girls and women”. The president (PT) participates in the afternoon.
