Sá Pinto reveals the reality we live in Iran: “It is unacceptable to live with this lack of freedom”

Portuguese coach Ricardo Sá Pinto, who recently left the technical command of Esteghlal, spoke to RTP about the situation in Iran, harshly criticizing the lack of freedom in the country.

Sá Pinto stated that he was not surprised by the recent events and regretted the restrictions imposed on the population, highlighting the limitations on freedom of expression and the possibility of democratic demonstration. “It is unacceptable to live with all these constraints, with these absurd rules, with this lack of freedom”, he declared.

The technician also referred to reports about the number of deaths in the demonstrations that began in Tehran and spread across several provinces, describing the scenario as a “catastrophe” and something “difficult to admit”.

Despite the criticism, Ricardo Sá Pinto admitted that he could return to Iran in the future, if there is a change of regime and the country returns to being, in his words, “civilized”. He also highlighted Iranian history and culture, considering that it is a country with enormous potential to rise again and regain its international prestige.
