On the third day of yet another worsening of tensions between the Israeli army and the Shiite radicals of Hezbollah, the Lebanese government reports 70 deaths, the majority of which are civilians. Tel Aviv issued new warnings to the population in southern Lebanon and demanded that they move north of the Litani River to stay safe from further attacks.
This Wednesday was also marked by statements from Hezbollah, which claimed to have killed members of the Israeli army in the town of Khiam, five kilometers from the border with Israel, in an ambush that involved the detonation of explosives. By the end of the day, the Israeli army had not confirmed the information and there was no independently identified data to that effect. The Israelis also intensified attacks in the southern suburbs of Lebanon, where the majority of the population is Shiite Muslim and where Hezbollah has much of the infrastructure.
In the Israeli attacks, a hotel was hit. Iran reacted on the same day and said that, if the Iranian embassy in Beirut is attacked, all Israeli embassies in the world will be considered legitimate targets.
