The reason for the Israeli request is a possible new attack on Hezbollah in the region
The Israeli government ordered on Wednesday (March 4, 2026) the vacancy of an area of 850 km² in southern Lebanon. The region runs from the Israeli border to the Litani River, located 30 km from the furthest point. Around 200,000 Lebanese who live in this territory must leave their homes. The decision comes during an increase in the confrontation between Tel Aviv and Hezbollah, a group supported by Iran.
The sequence of military actions began on Monday (March 2, 2026), when Hezbollah entered the war started by the United States and Israel against Iran. The Israeli government then began an air campaign over Lebanese territory. In the early hours of Tuesday (March 3, 2026), Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee listed 50 villages and settlements in a publication on X, asking residents to leave their homes.
“Hezbollah’s activities are forcing the Israel Defense Forces to take strong action against it, and we have no intention of harming them.”he stated. The order ordered affected residents to remain at least 1,000 meters from their villages, warning that anyone near Hezbollah facilities would be “putting your life at risk”.
Ongoing military operations
The Tel Aviv government sent reinforcements to the northern border and Israeli troops entered the 5 points that the country already occupied within southern Lebanon. The evacuated area corresponds to the territory established by UN (United Nations) resolution 1701, a measure that sought to end the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel. After the conflict, Israel withdrew from the territory while Hezbollah remained in the region.
Currently, Hezbollah continues to launch rockets and drones against Israel. On Wednesday (04.Mar.2026), the group reported having targeted an Israeli aerospace production center. In the current war, 30,000 of the 5.5 million Lebanese people have already been affected by internal displacement.
