US President Donald Trump said in an interview with CNN on Friday that Iran’s leadership is free of influence. Trump wants the new leadership to treat the United States and Israel well and he is also open to the possibility that a religious leader would rule in Iran, writes TASR.
“Iran is not the same country as it was a week ago,” the White House chief said in a telephone interview. “They were strong a week ago and now they’re really neutered,” he stated.
The head of the White House believes that choosing a new leader of Iran will be easy. According to him, he himself must participate in this process. “It will work very easily. It will work like in Venezuela. We have a great leader there. She is doing a fantastic job. And it will work like in Venezuela.” he said, referring to Venezuela’s interim president, Delca Rodríguez. She assumed the presidency after US special forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in January.
Asked if he was open to having a religious leader head Iran, Trump said: “Well, maybe yes, it depends on who that person is going to be. I have nothing against religious leaders. I work with many religious leaders and they are fantastic”.
The president does not insist that Iran must be a democratic state, but he wants a righteous leader there who will treat the US and Israel well, likewise with other countries in the Middle East.
Trump claims to have made friends with countries in the Middle East. “That’s why everyone is fighting for us. Before I got involved, we weren’t even talking to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. You know, (former US President Joe) Biden excluded them. Biden and (former US President Barack) Obama excluded Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, they simply excluded them all. Everyone was interested in heading towards China,” he stated.
According to Trump, the situation regarding the Strait of Hormuz has been “resolved”. Iran is essentially blocking the Strait of Hormuz after the launch of US-Israeli attacks on Saturday morning, through which a fifth of the world’s oil supplies and significant reserves of liquefied natural gas pass.
“We destroyed their navy because you know when you destroy the navy they can’t do what they wanted to do. The navy is almost…we just hit about 25 targets.” he added.
