The has been consolidating its position as a wine producing territory and as a destination offering wine tourism, investing in the valorization of wine resources and the promotion of experiences associated with gastronomy and tourism.
Membership of the AMVP – Association of Portuguese Municipalities with Wines and integration into the Algarve Golden Terroir brand, developed in partnership with the municipalities of Lagoa, Albufeira, Monchique, São Brás de Alportel and Lagos, contributed to reinforcing this identity and promoting the Algarve wine-producing territory.
Joint strategy to enhance wine-growing territory
In this context, the municipalities that make up the Algarve Golden Terroir develop a joint strategy to promote the territory, based on a brand that seeks to value wine and the resources associated with wine production.

As part of this strategy and following Portimão’s participation in FINE – International Wine Tourism Exhibition, held in Valladolid, a FAM Trip is being held between March 5th and 10th, which will pass through Portimão on March 9th.
International buyers visit Portimão
The initiative aims to position the region as an excellent wine tourism destination, with the presence of 12 international buyers who participated in FINE, from Mexico, Brazil, Norway, the United States, Spain and Portugal.

In addition to wine and gastronomic experiences, the program also aims to publicize reference tourist infrastructures and products, reinforcing the complementarity between wine tourism and the rest of the regional offer.
In this context, visits are planned to the Adega da Villa Alvor, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and several reference restaurants in Portimão, with the aim of presenting the local tourist offer, particularly associated with gastronomy and wines produced in the region, but also other tourist products that complement this proposal.
With this initiative, AGT – Algarve Golden Terroir, with the support of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) and the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA), reinforces its commitment to promoting and structuring wine tourism in the region, creating synergies between the wine and tourism sectors.

Wine production and wine tourism are, therefore, key elements in the construction of a diversified tourist destination, helping to attract visitors throughout the year.
In addition to its impact on the economy and regional development, wine also asserts itself as an expression of the region’s identity, its culture and its traditions, providing visitors and residents with authentic and differentiating experiences.
