Iran apologizes and imposes conditions to suspend attacks on neighboring countries

Statements by the country’s president

The president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, issued a statement this Saturday in which he apologized to neighboring Gulf countries and imposed a condition to suspend attacks against these states – not to be the target “of aggression”. The statement comes one day after US President Donald Trump said he would not negotiate with Iran without an “unconditional surrender”.

Despite the conciliatory tone aimed at the Gulf countries, Pezeshkian maintains a firm stance towards the international community, stating on state television that Iran “will never surrender”.

However, according to CNN, the situation on the ground continues to worsen. In the last few hours, the Israeli army announced the start of “a broad wave of attacks” on infrastructure in Tehran and the city of Isfahan, where critical facilities for the Iranian nuclear program are located. The offensive followed a night of intense bombing in and around the capital.

Iran’s retaliatory attacks on the Gulf States continued, generating warning sirens in Bahrain and security notifications on cell phones in Doha, Qatar, with the country’s Ministry of Defense confirming that a ballistic missile had been launched by Iran. It, however, ended up being intercepted.

This Saturday, this conflict in the Middle East entered its eighth day. In the last assessment made by the Iranian government agency, more than 1,200 people had already lost their lives.
