Russia shares intelligence with Iran for attacks on US targets in the Middle East

Russia is providing Iran with intelligence for attacks on American targets during the ongoing military conflict in the Middle East. Three sources, including a high-ranking American official familiar with the matter, told CBS News on Friday, writes TASR.

  • Russia is currently providing Iran with intelligence for attacks on Americans.
  • This is the first known direct Russian aid to Iran during the current attacks.
  • Russia and China support Iran politically and in other unspecified ways.
  • Washington considers the Iranian regime decimated by the ongoing US military operation.
  • Iran supplies Russia with technology, including the Shahid drones deployed against Ukraine.

According to the station, this is Russia’s first known aid to Iran, which has been under attack by Israel and the United States since Saturday. The Washington Post was the first to report on the provision of intelligence to Tehran.

Russia and China support Iran

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that the Russian government is communicating with Iranian officials. Russia and China are helping Iran politically and “in other ways,” according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakhchi. Peskov declined to respond to a Washington Post question about the intelligence findings.

The White House has not directly commented on Russia’s involvement in the conflict, and deputy White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said “the Iranian regime is absolutely crushed.”

Objectives of the American operation

“Operation Epic Fury is achieving or exceeding all of its objectives, and the United States will continue to dominate,” Kelly said.

In response to a reporter’s question, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said she could not comment on “reports of intelligence information that has been leaked to the media.”

“Whether it happened or not, frankly, it doesn’t really matter because President (US Donald) Trump and the US military are absolutely decimating the erratic Iranian terrorist regime,” she told Fox News.

American equipment and Iranian technology

She later told reporters that it was clear that it had no effect on military operations in Iran, as it was being weakened.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press, citing two officials familiar with US intelligence, said Russia was providing Iran with information that could help Tehran strike US warships, aircraft and other equipment in the Middle East.

Russia maintains close relations with Iran, which has been isolated for years because of its nuclear program and support for militant groups in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Hamas, the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Yemeni Houthi rebels. Iran provides technology to Russia, including the Shahid-type drones that Moscow deployed in its war against Ukraine.
