Lula delivers Women’s Day speech on national television

President speaks to the country this Saturday night (7th March) about policies and combating violence against women

The president (PT) will make his first speech on national radio and TV this Saturday (7th March 2026), at 8:30 pm, in reference to International Women’s Day. The broadcast will be 6 minutes long and was recorded at Palácio do Alvorada. It will be shown simultaneously on open radio and TV.

Women represent 52% of the Brazilian electorate, more than 81.8 million voters, being decisive in the 2026 presidential race. The agenda reinforces the centrality of the female audience in the presidential speech.

In previous years, the president did not speak on national television on March 8th. In 2023, minister Cida Gonçalves (Women) made the broadcast; in 2024, Lula spoke at an allusive lunch; and in 2025 he participated in an agrarian reform ceremony, also without a national network.

Since the beginning of the election year, Lula has adopted a more emphatic tone on rights and combating violence against women. On February 4, he launched the Brazilian National Pact to Combat Feminicide, coordinated by First Lady Janja da Silva, with commitments between the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary.

The pact includes 14 priority actions, such as the creation of new Brazilian Women’s Homes and 4.7 million psychological services scheduled for 2026. The initiative reinforces the government’s institutional commitment to protecting women.
