Brazilian Rayssa Leal, 18, was left off the podium after taking fourth place this Sunday (8) in the Skateboarding World Championships, a global competition in the sport. The final took place at Cândido Portinari Park, in the west of São Paulo.
The Brazilian was behind the Japanese Ibuki Matsumoto (1st), Nanami Onishi (2nd) and Coco Yoshizawa (3rd), the latter current Olympic champion in street skateboarding. Rayssa was injured in the last maneuver and left the track crying. Until the publication of this report, there was no information about the severity of the injury.
There are two stages in the final phase. The first involves individual performances along the track. The second covers the best maneuver on a previously defined obstacle. This Sunday, this part of the dispute took place on a staircase with handrails and ledges on more than ten steps.
Rayssa started the first lap well, but a fall during a maneuver on the stairs took her off the track.
The Olympic medalist still recovered and returned to the second round of presentations to nail all the maneuvers she had planned. The grades she obtained, however, were not enough to take her to first place.
The Brazilian even tried to overcome her opponent in the final phase with a risky maneuver on the stair railing. In his last attempt, however, he ended up injuring his knee, receiving medical attention and leaving the track limping alongside Brazilian skateboarder Letícia Bufoni.
Rayssa was trying for her third World Championships title after winning gold in competitions in Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates in 2022, and in Rome, in Italy, in 2024.
The Brazilian also has other titles on her account. At the end of last year, for example, he won his fourth Street League Skateboarding championship, an international championship.
She also has two Olympic medals. The first was a silver, obtained at the age of 13 at the Tokyo Games, in 2021. In 2024, in Paris, he won bronze. Rayssa now targets Los Angeles-2028.
Afterwards, rain interrupted the men’s street final, in which Brazilian Wallace Gabriel competes. In the afternoon, the men’s and women’s skate park finals are still scheduled.
