The minister Gilmar Mendesdo STF (Supremo Tribunal Federal)determined that the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro present, within 72 hours, detailed information about the payment of compensation amounts to members of the institution — the so-called “hangings”.
In the order, the minister stated that the information sent by the state’s attorney general were insufficient to prove compliance with the determinations already established by the Supreme Court.
Gilmar ordered the body to present a complete breakdown of the remuneration and compensation amounts paid in the months of January and February 2026, including bonuses, additional payments and possible retroactive amounts.
The dates on which payments were authorized and made must also be informed, accompanied by documents proving when the payment orders were forwarded to the responsible financial institution.
In dispatch. Days later, on February 26, the magistrate authorized the discharge of these funds only in cases in which the values had already been previously programmed in the institution’s financial schedule.
The STF postponed until March 25 the judgment on the decisions that suspended the payment of compensation amounts above the constitutional ceiling to public servants.
Until then, the injunctions issued by ministers Flávio Dino and Gilmar Mendes, who interrupted the transfers considered irregular, continue to apply.
The decisions of the two ministers affect compensation amounts paid above the constitutional ceiling for public service, currently set at R$ 46.366,19.
Gilmar Mendes’ precautionary measure suspended installments created by state laws for members of the Judiciary and the Public Ministry that exceed the salary limit.
Flávio Dino’s injunction determined the national suspension of payments without legal support and set a deadline for the National Congress to issue a law regulating these funds.
