Heavy rain knocks down part of the wall at Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo

Despite the incident, no injuries were reported and site operations were not affected.

A part of the wall surrounding Congonhas Airport, in the south of São Paulo, fell this Sunday afternoon (8) after the strong storm that hit the capital of São Paulo. The structure collapsed in the Avenida dos Bandeirantes regionone of the main access roads to the airport.

Despite the incident, there were no injuries reported. In a statement, the concessionaire Aena, responsible for managing the airport, reported that operations were not affected.

“The heavy rains that occurred on Sunday afternoon (8), with a high volume of water, caused sections of the heritage wall surrounding Congonhas Airport to fall”, he said “The areas were isolated immediately after the incident and are being monitored by the airport security teams”, he added.

The storm caused various problems in the capital of São Paulo. According to the Fire Department, hundreds of calls related to flooding, falling trees and landslides were recorded by the end of the afternoon.

Civil Defense also issued warnings for heavy and persistent rain in different regions of the city.
