State could raise more than R$2 million with higher gasoline prices

The rise in gasoline prices is part of a broader increase in fuel prices, driven by the worsening conflict in the Middle East, after attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, which caused the Brent barrel to reach 118.22 dollars (102 euros).

In the coming weeks, the State will be able to collect more than two million euros in additional VAT revenue, just due to the increase in the price of gasoline.

These are calculations made by based on the increase in seven cents per liter and consumption recorded at gas stations last month.

The Government decided not to apply any discount on the Tax on Petroleum Products (ISP) on gasolineas the increase was below the 10 cents per liter threshold that normally triggers support measures.

The rise in gasoline prices is part of a broader increase in fuel prices, driven by the after attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, which caused a barrel of Brent crude to reach 118.22 dollars (102 euros). THE diesel rose by 19 cents per liter, after the Government applied an extraordinary discount to stop the initial increase of 25 cents.

If oil prices continue to rise on international markets, the ICMS collection in favor of the State could be even higher, maintaining the direct impact on Portuguese consumers.
