There is actually only one thing that Yevgeny Kissin doesn’t quite manage to do in the first half of the concert at the Musikverein, and that is: a convincing smile. No matter how corners of his mouth lift, his gaze remains tense. No wonder, as the keyboard virtuoso has prescribed all sorts of tricky pieces for the evening – and is accordingly under pressure.
