The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced this Monday that NATO anti-aircraft batteries have neutralized another missile llaunched from Iran passing through Turkish airspace, the second incident of its kind in less than a week.
“Ballistic munition launched from Iran and that entered Turkish airspace was neutralized by anti-aircraft defense means and NATO anti-missile missile systems deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean”, The Turkish Ministry has indicated in a statement in which it specifies that remains of the intercepted ammunition fell in an uninhabited area of Gaziantep.
“There have been no victims or injuries,” confirmed by the Turkish authorities who have indicated that the country attaches “great importance to good neighborly relations and regional stability.”
In a warning message, in response to the second incident of this type since the beginning of Iran’s retaliation for the large-scale offensive by the United States and Israel, Ankara insists that “all necessary measures will be taken resolutely” and without hesitation against any threat directed to the territory and airspace” of the country.
And, in this sense, calls on all actors to “heed Türkiye’s warnings” in this regard. Last Wednesday, Türkiye denounced the launch of a ballistic missile by Iran that was also shot down by the anti-aircraft defense systems of the Atlantic Alliance.
NATO reiterated its support for Ankara in the face of Tehran’s “indiscriminate attacks” in the region in response to the military offensive launched by the United States and Israel on February 28. The transatlantic organization has strengthened its defense against ballistic missiles in light of the latest events in the Middle East.
