Despite the previous claims of the Russian advisers, Dmitry Peskov stated that the American president did not present any specific demand for a ceasefire in Ukraine as soon as possible.
During Monday’s phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump did not demand a ceasefire in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this on Tuesday, reported the British BBC website, writes TASR.
- According to Peskov, Donald Trump did not demand a ceasefire in Ukraine during his phone call with Vladimir Putin.
- Russia has long rejected a ceasefire during peace talks on the conflict in Ukraine.
- Washington is ready to continue as a mediator in trilateral negotiations with Russia.
- Donald Trump agreed to a temporary suspension of sanctions related to the war in the Middle East.
Russia continues to reject a ceasefire during negotiations
Peskov was reacting to the statements of the adviser to the Russian president, Yuri Ushakov, according to which Trump spoke in favor of “achieving a ceasefire as quickly as possible” in Ukraine.
“Such conditions have not been presented. The modalities associated with the ceasefire have been discussed several times and are well known,” said the Kremlin spokesman.
For a long time, Russia has refused to declare a ceasefire during negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict. However, according to Peskov, “in principle, everyone is interested in a ceasefire as soon as possible.”
Continuation of negotiations and sanctions
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman said that it is necessary to continue trilateral negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the United States, while Washington is ready to continue acting as a mediator. The date and place of the next meeting are not yet known.
Peskov added that Trump and Putin did not even discuss the issue of sanctions in detail during the phone call. However, the American president on Monday admitted the possibility of their temporary suspension in connection with the war in the Middle East.
Peskov declined to answer questions about reports that Moscow was providing intelligence to Iran for attacks on American targets.
