Cade will analyze whether there is material to investigate fuel prices

O Cade (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) informed that it will analyze the signs mentioned in Senacon’s communication (National Consumer Secretariat), of the Ministry of Justice, on the recent increases in fuel prices in four States (Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul) and the Federal District.

The city hall said it will assess whether there is enough material to launch an investigation.

This Tuesday (10) the Ministry of Justice sent a request to the competition defense body following public statements by representatives of Sindicombustíveis-DF, Sindicombustíveis Bahia, Sindipostos-RN, Minaspetro-MG and Sulpetro-RS, informing that the distributors had increased sales prices for service stations under the justification of an increase in the international price of oil, due to the conflict in the Middle East.

“To date, however, Petrobras has not announced an increase in prices charged at its refineries. Given this scenario, Senacon requested that Cade evaluate the existence of possible signs of practices that could harm free competition in the market, and that could indicate an attempt to influence the adoption of uniform or combined commercial conduct between competitors”, says the letter sent to Cade.
