Berlin International Airport (BER) temporarily suspended operations on Wednesday after authorities spotted a drone in its airspace. The AFP agency reports that this is the latest in a series of similar incidents in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, writes TASR.
An airport spokesman told AFP that operation was suspended “for safety reasons” for approximately half an hour, when they “observed an unidentified flying object” near a German army helicopter hangar. The police were called, but the object did not appear again. Shortly after 7:10 p.m., restrictions were lifted and airport operations resumed, the spokesman said.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has repeatedly accused Russia of being behind similar incidents in the pastwhen drones were spotted in various places in Germany and elsewhere in Europe, including airports, military bases and power plants, AFP recalls. In October of last year, as a result of such observations, the Munich airport had to suspend operations twice.
