Haddad is the best candidate for everything, says Alckmin

Vice-president gave the statement when asked by Datena whether minister would be the best to run for government of SP

The vice-president (PSB) stated on Tuesday (10.mar.2026), in an interview with , that the Minister of Finance, (PT), is “the best candidate for everything”. The statement was a response to the interviewer, who asked if Haddad would be the best option to run against (Republicans) for the government of São Paulo.

“Why is Haddad a big name? He was mayor of São Paulo, he ran in the last election [ao governo] and went to the 2nd round, he is the Minister of Finance. He has experience and public spirit. I say that Haddad is the best candidate for everything, not just for governor”said Alckmin.

On Tuesday (10th March), Haddad announced that he would contest the elections next week. He said, however, that he will still decide which position he should run for in October, whether senator or governor. Dario Durigan, executive secretary of the department, should take his place.

In the interview, Alckmin stated that a meeting between him, Haddad and the president (PT) to discuss the São Paulo election had not yet been held, and that, in the coming days, there would be a definition of the names that would compete for the government and the two seats for the Senate.

“We will have a great and competitive candidate in São Paulo”said Alckmin, adding that the vacancies to compete in the State could be occupied by the ministers (PSB), (MDB) and (Rede). “In the next few days, wait for news”he stated.

Asked if he preferred to remain vice-president, Alckmin avoided answering. “I am happy, honored and working, which is the most important thing”he stated.
