The Minister of Foreign Affairs, , will deliver a letter to the elected president of , José Antonio Kast, inviting the leader of the Chilean right to Brazil, after President Lula (PT) to the inauguration ceremony in the Latin country.
Mauro Vieira was appointed to represent the Brazilian government at the event in Chile, after Lula canceled his participation in the inauguration on the same day as the trip.
Planalto did not officially justify the reasons for the last-minute cancellation. Interlocutors deny a relationship between the decision and the departure of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), who confirmed his participation the day before.
According to an interlocutor familiar with the deliberations, Lula’s stay in the country was due to concerns about the impact of the Iran war on Brazilian issues, such as the increase in oil prices.
With Kast’s inauguration, Chile ended a four-year period of leftist leadership, led by Gabriel Boric, an ally of Lula. Kast requested Lula’s presence at the event during a friendly meeting between the two in Panama, when Lula had officially confirmed he was going to the event.
