In Nova Bani, they declared a state of emergency due to a landslide on the third-class road on Školská street. The road administrator, the Banskobystrica Regional Road Administration (BBRSC), carried out the necessary measures to ensure safety on the spot, but despite this, the municipality asks residents to be extra careful when moving in this area. The road is currently passable, but the footpath bordering the road leading to the local railway station was also damaged during the landslide.
- In Nova Bani, they declared an emergency situation due to a landslide on the road.
- The landslide on the morning of March 7 damaged the road, sidewalk and uprooted several trees.
- The walkway to the train station is almost completely torn off and closed.
- BBRSC put up temporary signage, removed trees, soil and put back barriers.
- NDS concrete barriers contained the landslide and protected the roadway from destruction.
Director of Technical Services in Novoban, Lucia Beťková explained to TASR that residents reported the landslide on Saturday, March 7 in the morning. During the landslide, several trees fell, which threatened traffic, and also moved the concrete barriers lining the road. They were installed in the section of the National Highway Company (NDS) last year. The landslide also damaged the footpath above the road leading to the railway station.
“The landslide complicated the situation for us in that 90 percent of the trail is torn off in one place, so we had to close it from both sides and it is currently impassable for people,” stated Beťková. After the event, they also checked and cleaned other sections of the slope. According to her, they want to rehabilitate the parts that are in the worst condition with a retaining wall in the future. In this regard, the city also declared an emergency situation based on the meeting of the crisis staff.
The measures to ensure safety in the mentioned section were implemented by the BBRSC in cooperation with other interested entities after the landslide. “BBRSC has placed temporary traffic markings to ensure safe passage through the section, and a tree located on the slope has been removed. which hung dangerously over the promenade and the road. We also removed the soil that had moved and returned the barriers placed on the roadside to their original state,” explained BBRSC communications and PR manager Martina Straková.
She also added that they are not planning any further work for the time being, as the road is passable, the roadside has been cleaned and secured as it was before the landslide. “In the case of fallen rocks on the roadway, we will remove them. We will not interfere with the slope any more,” she added with a warning that the land is not the property of the Banskobystrica self-governing region (BBSK) or BBRSC.
The head of the Center for the Administration and Maintenance of Expressways 2 Nová Baňa, Peter Pšenak, explained that concrete barriers were installed in the section in the past for rocks falling on the road. “Subsequently, when this slope was landslided, these concrete barriers prevented the landslide from reaching the roadway, thereby preventing the danger to road traffic,” he noted. He also added that although NDS is the owner of the section, the road network is currently being arranged so that the property can be transferred to BBSK.
