A Barra do Campestre Dam, in Coronel José Diasin the south of Piauí, went into a state of extreme alertlast Tuesday (10), after the state Civil Defense identified an imminent risk of the structure collapsing.
Given the scenario, emergency teams began monitoring the dam and adopting preventive measures.
The alert was issued by Sedec (State Secretariat for Civil Defense of Piauí) after technical teams identified critical conditions on the main wall of the reservoir, in the Barra do Campestre community. , with guidelines for evacuating risk areas.
This Wednesday (11), those living around the dam, within the radius of possible impact in the event of a rupture. The withdrawal was carried out after a task force involving state agencies and the city of Coronel José Dias, which began to guide residents and guarantee the safe exit of families from the area considered most vulnerable.
According to the director of Prevention and Mitigation of the state’s Civil Defense, Werton Costa, preventive evacuation was the main action to protect residents.
“It was essential for us to achieve the greatest achievement, which is to guarantee the voluntary removal of families that are within the reach of a possible dam collapse. Now, after the completion of this stage, the Civil Defense will closely monitor and guide the municipality to reduce the risk and maintain safety”, he stated.
According to the agency, technical teams continue to work in the region to ensure that the flow of water from the reservoir occurs gradually and safely, reducing pressure on the dam structure.
The state Civil Defense Response Manager, Indira Bezerra, also instructed the municipality to register the occurrence in the Integrated Disaster Information System (S2ID), a platform used by the federal government to analyze emergency situations and evaluate the release of support.

Teams from the state’s Civil Defense, Idepi (Piauí Development Institute), Semarh (Secretary of the Environment and Water Resources), CBMPI (Piauí Military Fire Department) and Coronel José Dias City Hall participate in the operation, with monitoring from the Public Ministry.
