Thousands of students are waiting for their high school diploma in mathematics: for others it will soon be compulsory!

4,785 students will take the written matriculation exam in mathematics on Thursday. The Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the SR informed about it. For first-year students who will start high school next year, the graduation from this subject will be mandatory.

The compulsory high school diploma in mathematics will be two-level. It will concern gymnasiums, secondary industrial schools and selected vocational secondary schools. It will not be mandatory for conservatories, sports schools or business academies. It is waiting for students from the 2030/2031 school year.

This year’s graduation week will end on Friday (March 13). Pupils will write tests and essays on the Slovak language and Slovak literature and on the Ukrainian language and literature from schools of national minorities. “More than 1,600 pupils will write both parts of the exam in the Slovak language and Slovak literature, 17 high school graduates are waiting for the Ukrainian language and literature,” the ministry said.

The week of written exams on Tuesday (March 10) opened with an external test and a style work on Slovak language and literature. On Wednesday (March 11), the high school graduates took a written exam in a foreign language. In this school year, more than 42,000 students are registered for the matriculation exam.
