Cambodia has received back 74 centuries-old Khmer cultural artifacts that were illegally smuggled during the civil war and the Khmer Rouge regime.

The objects were returned by the family by British art dealer Douglas Latchford who took them from the country.

In a ceremony held on February 27, the objects were blessed by Cambodian monks.

Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many highlighted the importance of this international cooperation to restore the country’s ancestral heritage.

“We can bring all these artifacts back home, and these artifacts are the inheritance of our ancestors to our Khmer children for generations,” Hun Many was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Cambodia’s archaeological sites have suffered widespread looting during civil strife and the government has spent years seeking the repatriation of these antiquities.
