Trump says Iran has asked for a deal, but the terms are still not good enough

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this morning, in a telephone interview with NBC, that Iran wants to reach a ceasefire agreement that would put an end to the American and Israeli bombings, but that he is not willing because for now the terms [de un acuerdo] “They are not good enough.” He has not detailed what terms those would be, although he has indicated that the Iranian commitment to abandon its nuclear program would be among them.

“Iran wants to reach an agreement, and I don’t want to do it because the conditions are not yet good enough,” the American president expressed in the interview, in which he clarified that any condition for an eventual agreement must be “very solid.”

He also said in the same interview that several countries have committed to participating in a mission to guarantee security in the Strait of Hormuz, although he has not specified which ones they are. “Not only have they committed, but they also believe it is a great idea,” he added.

Regarding the future of the US offensive against Iran, Trump has emphasized the superiority of his forces and has pointed out that Iranian capacity is limited to “launching a mine or firing a short-range missile.” This, he has declared, is “the only power they (Iranian forces) have and can be neutralized relatively quickly.”

In the same interview, Donald Trump has questioned whether Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is alive after not appearing in front of the cameras for his first official statement this Thursday. “I don’t know if he is even alive. Until now, no one has been able to prove it (…). I have heard that he is not alive, and if he is, he should do something very intelligent for his country, and that is surrender,” he said. (Agencies)
