Portugal has countless natural corners spread across the territory that continue to surprise those looking for peaceful landscapes, quality bathing areas and places where heritage intersects with nature. Between sea beaches, river spaces and preserved sceneries, there are less talked about destinations that ended up gaining prominence inside and outside the country, as is the case with this river beach.

Reconquinho River Beach, in Penacova, is one of these cases. Located on the left bank of the Mondego River, in front of the village, it was distinguished by National Geographic as one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, a recognition that helped to project this natural space nationally and internationally.

A highlight among the most beautiful in the country

In 2018, the publication included Praia Fluvial do Reconquinho in a list of the nine most beautiful beaches in Portugal, after evaluating more than one hundred places from north to south of the country. The recognition was announced at the time by , which highlighted the importance of this distinction for the municipality.

The choice was based on the natural landscape of the site, marked by the green surroundings and the location next to the Mondego. The visual setting of the beach is precisely one of the elements that most differentiates it and that most attracts those who visit the region.

A space prepared for summer

Reconquinho River Beach received the Blue Flag for the first time in 2013. In addition to its environmental quality, it offers conditions that make it especially appealing during the bathing season, with an extensive sandy beach, bar, beach facilities and fluvio library.

These characteristics make this space a popular option for those who want to spend a relaxing day in contact with nature, without giving up any comfort. The proximity to the village of Penacova also reinforces its attractiveness.

Humberto Oliveira, mayor of Penacova at the time, said: “It is a source of pride for all the people of Penacova to see their heritage distinguished, which proves, on the part of one of the most important channels in the world, that the municipality’s strategy of investing and giving visibility to its natural potential is a correct and differentiated path that places Penacova on an international level”.

Penacova wants to assert itself as a nature destination

With these types of distinctions and the appreciation of its natural spaces, Penacova has been consolidating the image of a destination linked to nature, rest and heritage. The recognition given to Praia Fluvial do Reconquinho ended up reinforcing this position and drawing even more attention to an area where the landscape continues to be the main calling card.
