The defense admitted that the, known as , paid the expenses of a trip that President Lula’s (PT) son took to Portugal.
The information was provided by lawyers this Monday (16) to the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court).
In the letter obtained by Sheetthe defense states that he was invited to the trip by Careca do to learn about the production of medicines produced with cannabidiol and invited him to “accompany him without any obligation”.
“The invitation was accepted and Antônio Camilo took Fábio to Portugal in November 2024, covering the costs of the trip. Fábio Luís accompanied the visit to possible suppliers and properties and this was the entire extent of the petitioner’s relationship with the project”, said the defense.
The lawyers also pointed out that Lulinha did not participate in negotiations, did not invest work or values ”nor did she receive an invitation to join, participate or purchase shares” in the INSS Careca commercial project “World Cannabis”.
Lulinha also stated, through his defense, that he showed interest in the topic of medicinal cannabidiol, especially because he has a niece who is undergoing treatment for epilepsy and has already faced difficulties with the quality and availability of medicines.
He added that he met Antônio through who was also the target of operation Sem Desconto, which targets fraud in the INSS. Investigating a payment of R$300,000 made by order of the lobbyist to the businesswoman. In total, she would have received, in installments, R$1.5 million.
The defense stated that she had presented the lobbyist as a “supposed successful pharmaceutical businessman and business partner of her friend”, with whom she had had a sporadic and social relationship.
“Fábio Luís never entered into any type of commercial relationship with Antônio Camilo, nor was he aware of INSS fraud or other illegalities”, says the document.
He also declared that, like everyone around him, Fábio understood the project as legal and that the public image he had of the lobbyist only changed many months after the trip to Portugal, with the launch of the operation, in April of last year.
