TASR was informed about this by the communication department of the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic. The members of the National Council of the Slovak Republic decide on the president’s salary.
“I appreciated that last year, during the consolidation of public finances, deputies decided to freeze their salaries for the next two years. However, in the resulting form of the law, the president, members of the government, the general prosecutor, judges and other state officials were exempted from the salary freeze. That’s why I’m donating any raised amount directly to the Cancer League,” stated Pellegrini.
In this context, the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic also reminded that as a result of consolidation measures, the head of state’s net salary decreased by more than 2,000 euros per month this year. He therefore points out that the president is not currently the highest-earning Slovak politician in terms of net salaries.
By law, the president’s salary is four times the basic salary of a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, to which he receives flat-rate compensation in the amount of 1,327 euros precisely determined by law. This entire amount is subject to levies and taxes, which are increased based on the last consolidation package for constitutional officials.
