The PL decided to support the candidacy of the senator () for the Government of Paraná and, thus, create a platform for the presidential campaign of (PL) in the state. The decision was taken this Wednesday (18) after a meeting between Moro, who leads polls of voting intentions, and the party leadership.
According to PL president Valdemar Costa Neto, Moro should run for União Brasil, but there is also the possibility that he will join Flávio’s party. The senator will have a meeting with the União Brasil-PP federation this Wednesday to define the party issue. On the same ticket, the PL must launch deputy Filipe Barros (PL-PR) to the Senate.
“We are going to support Moro. That’s right. Now, he needs to define his situation in União Brasil and in the PP”, said Valdemar. “We’re going to have to unite everyone there so he can win the election in the first round. Otherwise we’re dead because of Ratinho”, he added.
Last week, the governor of Paraná, . (PSD), who for his party, even met with Flávio’s campaign coordinator, senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), to try to block the PL’s support for Moro, which would hinder his succession plans in the state.
The condition set by the PL, however, was to go to the Palácio do Planalto to support Flávio — the governor is even considered as a possible vice-president for the Bolsonaro presidential candidate. But what happened was the opposite: the PSD consolidated the decision to launch Ratinho in the next few days, which accelerated the agreement between the PL and Moro.
Asked about the break between the PL and Ratinho, Valdemar replied that the governor of Paraná lives in his heart. “But it turns out that he’s going to be a candidate for president, so are we going to get zero votes in Paraná? And Moro is exploding there. And maybe, with 22 [na legenda]Moro wins until the election in the first round. Now, we need to see if he comes to the party or not.”
The PSD should still formalize next week in Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, , and Goiás, . The president of the party, Gilberto Kassab, has already indicated to allies that he should choose Ratinho.
Until this Wednesday, there was an agreement for the former president’s party to ally with Ratinho’s candidate in the state, in exchange for Filipe Barros running for the Senate.
The president of the Legislative Assembly, Alexandre Curi (PSD), is working to be chosen by Ratinho as his successor, but the governor shows preference for the Secretary of Cities, Guto Silva (PSD). The state deputy is holding talks with the Republicans to become a candidate, and the PL could nominate the vice president.
The break between the PL and Ratinho in Paraná opened space for Moro’s candidacy, who sought to make his candidacy for government possible in a party.
Last week, Marinho called the presidents of the PP, senator Ciro Nogueira (PI), and União Brasil, Antônio Rueda, to say that the PL intends to support the former judge of Operation Lava Jato and nominate his vice president. The PP, which leads the federation between the two parties in the state, is trying to block the senator’s candidacy.
Marinho told both parties that the preference is to support Moro in União Brasil, but that, if there is no space, since the priority is to strengthen the benches in Congress, he would offer a party for the former judge to contest for the PL.
