Temer says he does not regret nominating Moraes: Without him, we might not have had elections

This Tuesday, 17th, former president Michel Temer (MDB) defended minister Alexandre de Moraes, at the Federal Supreme Court (STF), over criticism that he had “heavy hand” in his actions in cases such as the fake news investigation and criminal actions involving the coup plot surrounding former president Jair Bolsonaro, arrested in Papudinha, in Brasília (DF).

“I nominated him and I confess, I don’t regret it, because I tell you, if it weren’t for him in the recent past, we might not have had elections in the country,” said Temer. “He had extraordinary legal and even personal courage.”

The statements were made during the Pensa Brasil Forum, promoted by the channel BandNews TV. The national president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, also participated. Temer appointed Alexandre de Moraes to the STF on February 6, 2017, to fill the vacancy opened after the death of minister Teori Zavascki in a plane crash.

“Interestingly, it’s not just social media, the criticism comes from a sector with more credibility, which is the Brazilian press”, continued the former president. “When people say that ‘freedom of expression has to be complete’, it has to be complete, so much so that the press often criticizes what the Supreme Court does.”
