As executive secretary of the department, Dario Carnevalli Durigan occupied the position of ‘number two’ in the economic team and was already tipped to take command of the ministry
President Lula (PT) announced this Thursday (19) that the executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dario Carnevalli Duriganwill replace Fernando Haddad (PT) in charge of the department. The PT member participated in the 17th federative caravan in São Paulo.
The confirmation was made informally at the beginning of the speech. When greeting the authorities present, the president asked Dario Duriganse to stand up and, in a relaxed tone, told the public that from this moment on, demands should be directed to the new head of the department.
“I want to greet my partner Dario Durigan. Dario, stand up. Stand up so people can meet Dario. He will be the Haddad’s replacement at the Ministry of Financefollowing Haddad’s announcement (about the pre-candidacy for the government of São Paulo)”, declared the president.
Behind the scenes, Durigan was already seen as the natural name for the succession. He already held the role of executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance since 2023occupying the position of “number two” on the economic team after the departure of Gabriel Galípolo, who was appointed president of the Central Bank.
Dario Carnevalli Durigan is 41 years old and is from Bebedouro (SP). The former executive secretary of Finance also chaired the board of Banco do Brasil. He is part of Vale’s Fiscal Council and it was director of Public Policy at WhatsApp in Latin America.
In the public sector, it went through Attorney General of the Union, by the City of São Paulo and by the Civil House, working on legal and economic issues and in coordination with Congress.
Graduated from USP and a master’s degree from UnB, he has a technical profile and experience in public management and economic policy.
Haddad’s Farewell
“Today, for me, is a special day, a day on which I am leaving the Ministry of Finance”, said Fernando Haddad during a ceremony this Thursday, on the eve of the official announcement that he will compete for Palácio dos Bandeirantes.
The Workers’ Party (PT) scheduled for Friday (20) the official announcement of the pre-candidacy of Haddad to the Government of the State of São Paulo. The event will take place at the Sindicato dos Químicos, in the capital of São Paulo, and will also feature the presence of President Lula.
As advanced by Jovem Pan, Haddad must dedicate himself fully to the campaign from April onwards, after a short period of rest. Although his name was considered for the Senate, the aiming to guarantee support for Lula’s presidential campaign in São Paulo.
Internally, the PT is now seeking to define the name of the vice-governor, preferably a center figure to expand dialogue with voters less aligned to the left. For the Senate, names like Simone Tebet and Marina Silva are among the trends to make up the majority ticket.
Haddad will run for government of the State of São Paulo in the 2026 elections.
