UN report: Lack of water access hits women harder

Paris – Women and girls suffer more from a lack of safe water access, according to a report. According to the United Nations, a total of 2.1 billion people do not have safe access to drinking water, it said on Thursday. In most cases, the responsibility for fetching water lies with women, according to the UN World Water Development Report. In rural areas, they are responsible for fetching water in 70 percent of households without a connection.
