Diesel prices rise 20% since the start of the war in the Middle East, says IBPT

In the first half of March, diesel drove the rise in fuel prices in Brazil with a spike of almost 20% in distributors, according to a survey by IBPT (Brazilian Institute of Planning and Taxation).

the S10 diesel had already risen 8.7% in the first week of March and intensified its upward trajectory until the 16th.

Looking at regional sections, the fuel records peaks above 26% in the Central-West and Northeast.

but more moderate, between around 3% and 5% on the national average; while ethanol remained practically stable, with a slight drop in the common type.

On a consolidated basis, the fuel average rose almost 10% in the period, reflecting price volatility throughout the month, according to IBPT.

The institute also points out that large industries and agribusiness face real difficulties in absorbing these increases, since diesel is a direct operational input.

Furthermore, the entity assesses that the cost of road transport of cargo and passengers will put pressure on inflation for several products.
