The president (PT) stated this Thursday (19.mar.2026) that it is necessary to launch “the best people” in the 2026 elections to prevent democracy from being threatened again by forces that he classified as “fascists”. In an event that marked the announcement of Fernando Haddad as a candidate for the São Paulo government, in ABC Metalworkers Unionem São Bernardo do Campo (SP), he said he was concerned about the global political situation.

“I had a conversation with Haddad showing that the political situation in the world is so serious that, if we don’t get the best people we have to contest the elections, we run the risk of handing democracy over again to the fascists”he declared.

The president said that the current political scenario requires greater mobilization of party leaders and activists. According to Lula, electoral disputes have become increasingly tighter, which requires organization and constant presence in the public debate. “The voter votes on election day. At the event, Haddad stated that he intends to run in the election to win. The minister also declared that he does not see the candidacy as a personal sacrifice. According to him, dedicating part of his life to politics is a commitment to reducing inequality in the country.
