Ventura denied what he called “fake news” that pointed to Paulo Otero and João Pacheco de Amorim as Chega’s preferred candidates for the Constitutional Court.
The president of Chega revealed today that the name the party wants to nominate for the Constitutional Court (TC) is the judge Luís Brites Lameirashighlighting his “remarkable trajectory” in the judiciary and academia.
In a post on the social network X, André Ventura considered that “in a normal country, it wouldn’t be possible to write about this in public”.
“But the amount of fake newsinvented and absolutely stupid comments that have been made in recent days forces me to make a clarification: the name negotiated and indicated by Chega for the TC is that of judge Luís Brites Lameiras”, he stated.
Ventura highlights his “remarkable career in the judiciary and academia” and classifies him as “a man of dialogue and good values”.
“An added value of prestige for the Constitutional Court. This is how Chega sees the institutions, with a sense of State. Stop the falsehoods!“, he called.
On Friday, the weekly newspaper Nascer do Sol, without identifying sources, reported that Chega, in negotiations with the PSD over the names for the Constitutional Court, had suggested the constitutionalist Paulo Otero and the university professor João Pacheco de Amorimbrother of Diogo Pacheco de Amorim, vice-president of parliament and Chega deputy.
The confirmation of Chega’s proposal comes at a time when the Constitutional Court is at the center of a crisis, with the socialists threatening to break off all negotiations and fail the State Budget if he is excluded from the process of choosing the three judges who must be replaced.
Who is Luís Brites Lameiras?
With a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, Luís Filipe Brites Lameiras has already passed through several courts, having been judge at the Lisbon Court of Appeals between 2010 and 2011 and in the Porto List between 2012 and 2013.
