Middle East: Escalation preparations with eye on Kharg and Straits

Steadily on a trajectory of further escalation remains the at and the conflict at , with the data in the field, but also the information about the plans of those involved and especially those that are coming to the surface to cause intense concern, given the pressure from the explosive increase in the prices of .

Trump hard line and complete absence of dialogue

A central role in escalating the climate is the attitude and decisions of Donald Trump, who has made it clear that he does not want a truce with Iran, arguing that from a military point of view, Tehran is “finished”. At the same time, he noted that “there is no one left in the Iranian leadership to talk to”, effectively confirming the complete absence of communication channels. He described the US military campaign as “extremely successful”, citing overwhelming strikes that have weakened critical structures of Iranian power, including the country’s navy.

Military Escalation Plans and Target Harg

At the same time, the Pentagon is said to have already drawn up detailed plans for the possible deployment of ground forces in Iran, while scenarios of occupying strategic points such as Kharg Island, through which about 90% of Iran’s oil exports pass, are being considered. Axios reported – citing an unnamed Trump administration official – that the logic behind the operation also includes the possible capture of Harg Island as leverage for future negotiations.

At the same time, the US is strengthening its military presence in the region with additional marines and naval forces, while raising the issue of international security involvement in the Strait of Hormuz, calling on countries such as China, Japan and South Korea to take a more active role.

UK involvement and tension in the Straits of Hormuz

The United Kingdom’s decision to extend the permission it has already given to the US to use its bases also contributes to the feeling that the tension still has a way to go and that the war is not expected to end soon.

According to what has been announced, Britain is now also allowing the use for targets related to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, where around 3,200 ships remain stranded, causing serious disruptions to the global energy supply chain. The de facto decision brought Tehran’s reaction, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi effectively threatening retaliation.

As for the issue of the Straits, a report by The Wall Street Journal states that the operations of the US and its allies there have already intensified, with fighter jets and attack helicopters increasing their flight hours and now operating at lower and lower altitudes.

Expansion of the conflict on multiple fronts

The Revolutionary Guards continued their attacks beyond Israel, with strikes in cities such as Tel Aviv and Haifa, as well as military targets in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. At the same time, sirens sounded in Bahrain, while in Baghdad, drone attacks near American facilities were recorded. Saudi Arabia also announced the interception of drones, confirming the widening of the conflict on multiple fronts.

Humanitarian crisis in Lebanon

The situation in Lebanon is particularly dramatic, where the conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah are escalating. Israeli airstrikes and ground operations have been met with fierce counter-attacks, with the death toll exceeding 1,000 and including thousands injured and over a million displaced, intensifying the humanitarian crisis.
