Threat from the President of the United States comes on the same day that more than 20 countries said they were ready to help unblock the Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump has given Iran 48 hours to open the Strait of Hormuz or destroy the Islamic country’s power plants. “If Iran does not COMPLETELY OPEN, WITHOUT THREATS, the Strait of Hormuz within 48 HOURS from this exact moment, the United States of America will attack and destroy its various ELECTRIC PLANTS”, wrote the Republican on his social networks, adding that they will start with the largest.
Trump’s threat comes on the same day that more than a narrow sea passage located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, operating as the natural border between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula.
“We are ready to contribute to the efforts adequate to guarantee safe passage through the strait,” said this group of 22 countries, mostly European, but which also includes the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. “We condemn in the strongest terms the recent attacks by Iran against unarmed merchant ships in the Gulf, attacks against civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas installations, and the practical closure of the Strait of Hormuz,” they stated in a joint statement.
The Strait of Hormuz has been closed since early March, after the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28.
In addition to threatening to attack Iran’s power plants, Trump also said that the United States had wiped Iran off the map. “Their leadership is gone, their navy and air force are dead, they have absolutely no defense and they want to make a deal,” he wrote.
