I have lived the life of ten men and I will die with dignity,” he wrote on social media. “I still have 2-3 years to say goodbye to everyone. And I will rock until the very last moment. No despair please. Just pure positivity,” he told fans.

According to the band’s official statement the singer began to feel “severe pains” already during the British tour of More Satanic Rites in December. Some evenings he even had to take short breaks because of the pain. In order not to disappoint loyal fans, he overcame the discomfort with painkillers. Only after the end of the concert string did he undergo medical examinations to find out the cause of the unrelenting pains, from which a cruel diagnosis emerged.
