A large part of the population in areas affected by the January and February storms was left without access to telephone, television and Internet. Telecommunications operators still charged for services.

The storm took many things, namely lives.

In a non-material way it also took telephone, television and Internet.

When several people thought they would not be charged for the (non-existent) telecommunications service for those weeks, they were surprised by the bill.

This is what Maria (fictitious name) says: “I received the invoice as if everything was normal. I went there to complain, because I wasn’t going to pay for a service I didn’t enjoy”

In the morning, the victim, who lives in one of the parishes in the municipality of Leiria most affected by storm Kristin, says that received the invoice relating to the month of February with the full value of the telecommunications service, despite it not working… until today.

I still don’t have television, Internet or telephone. I can only use my cell phone”, he laments, to JN.

Maria, the operator in question (MEO) promised to give you a credit later to compensate for it. Even so, after several insistences, the company decided to reduce your bill to nine euros – the amount was related to cell phone use.

MEO assured the same newspaper that “it has automatically credited periods of unavailability of services to customers in areas affected by the storms.

“Customers receive a credit corresponding to the days in which they had no service, reflected in the next invoice”, says the operator, adding that “the Fixed network availability is 95.5%” and that the “forecast points to the full service replacement by April 30th“.
