Ivo Ferreira FariaChega’s candidate in the municipal elections of October last year for the Union of Parishes of Antime and Silvares S. Clemente, in the municipality of Fafe, district of Braga, was arrested on suspicion of committing the crimes of pornography of minors, aggravated sexual abuse of children and wanton privacy, the Judicial Police revealed on Saturday.
According to the PJ, the arrest occurred in the act of committing a crime and the victims are the daughter and also the partner.
In the statement released on Saturday, the PJ describes that, after expert analysis, “hundreds of files with content compatible with minor pornography” on the target’s computer equipment, which was seized.
“Some of these files contained images of young children participating in explicit sexual acts,” says the PJ statement.
According to this criminal investigation force, after a preliminary analysis of the equipment, it was possible to determine that the suspect shared files with other users through digital platforms.
“Strong evidence was also collected that the suspect allegedly sexually abused his own young daughteralso sharing intimate records of his partner, without her consent”, says the statement.
The accused, aged 27, was presented for the first judicial interrogation before a criminal investigation judge, who decreed coercive measures to preventive detention e inhibition from exercising parental responsibilitiesindicated a judicial source on Monday.
“He was expelled”
Chega expelled the activist and former candidate. In a decision dated Monday and published on the party’s website, Chega’s National Jurisdiction Council decided to expel Ivo Ferreira Faria, and that he could only be re-registered after seven years.
At a press conference this morning, the leader of Chega was asked about this case, I confirmed the expulsion.
“It’s to see how quickly the difference is compared to other parties. He was expelled, because in Chega this is how we deal with things, quickly, with execution, without margin and without protection”, highlighted André Ventura.
Ventura also complained about disparity in treatment by the press, claiming that in previous cases involving other parties this political connection was not mentioned.
5th case of sexual abuse in Chega
This is already the fifth case involving candidates or former leaders linked to Chega on suspicion of sexual abuse.
The most recent case dates back to December last year, when the Judiciary Police detained, Chega’s candidate for the Azambuja municipal assembly in the 2021 and 2025 municipal elections, for suspected of sexually abusing two young people, aged 11 and 14between April and November. The alleged crimes occurred at an equestrian center in Azambuja, where he was a horse riding teacher.
In October 2025, , teacher at a basic school in Alenquer, ex-militant and former local candidate for the party in Arruda dos Vinhos, was placed in pre-trial detention. He is being investigated for a new complaint of sexual abuse against a 14 year old girlin a school context, where he was filmed groping a student. According to the PJ, cited by , the case involves suspicions of sexual abuse of minors, resorting to prostitution of minors and pornography of minors.
Another case was that of , former municipal deputy and former vice-president of the Lisbon district, who resigned from his positions after being accused of two crimes of resorting to child prostitution. The trial began in January and Chega decided to expel him.
Already, deputy and president of the Lisbon district, was the target of a complaint for alleged minor rapepresented in 2023. The parliamentarian always denied the accusations and the case ended up being archived by the Public Ministry.
