Former mayor of Osasco and Lula’s ally in SP will lead proposals for the Palácio dos Bandeirantes; Emídio also coordinated Haddad’s presidential campaign in 2018
The pre-candidate for the government of São Paulo, (PT), this Monday (March 23, 2026) defined the state deputy (PT-SP) as coordinator of the government program for the electoral race. This Monday’s meeting, which defined Emídio’s role, did not have specific guidelines on the focus of the campaign, nor the presentation of proposals. It was just an initial conversation.
Former mayor of Osasco and metalworker, Emídio has known the president (PT) since 1980, when he was still a union leader. The deputy also coordinated Haddad’s presidential campaign in 2018. At the time, the PT member received 44.87% of the valid votes in the 2nd round and lost to (PL), which obtained 55.13%.
“I accepted with great pride the task of coordinating the government program of our campaign for the Government of São Paulo. I would like to thank our pre-candidate for his trust and invite progressive activists to join in the effort to build an innovative program for our state”said the deputy, who will be responsible for preparing the proposals for Haddad’s candidacy for governor of São Paulo.
A from Haddad to Palácio dos Bandeirantes already has other definitions in its structure.state president of the PT and federal deputy, will be responsible for general coordination. Otávio Antunes will lead the marketing work. The federal deputy (PT) will be in charge of communication.
Emídio de Souza
Emídio de Souza began his electoral career in 1988, when he was elected councilor in Osasco, a position he held until 2000. In 2000, he was a candidate for mayor of Osasco and obtained 48% of the valid votes. The following year, he took office as state deputy. In 2004, he won the election for mayor of Osasco and was re-elected in the 1st round, in 2008.
In 2018, he was elected state deputy with 65,898 votes. In 2022, he was re-elected with 157,834 votes, being the 2nd most voted PT for the position. In 2024, he was a candidate for mayor of Osasco, but did not win the contest: he received 15.07% of the votes, while the winner, (Podemos), was elected in the 1st round, with 75.28%.
