Indian-flagged oil tankers manage to pass through Hormuz along the coast of Iran

An official said two Indian-flagged gas tankers passed through the Strait of Hormuz without incident and were expected to reach Indian shores later this week. LPG carriers Pine Gas and Jag Vasant crossed the war-hit strait on Monday night, India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Special Secretary Rajesh Kumar Sinha said on Tuesday.

Indian media reported that the two tankers, carrying roughly a day’s supply of the country’s cooking gas, sailed close to each other and followed an Iranian-approved route that passes close to the country’s coast.

Officials did not explain how the ships obtained permission to travel through the strait.

Iran continues to maintain tight control over the Strait of Hormuz, which leads from the Persian Gulf toward the open ocean and through which a fifth of the world’s oil and other key commodities are transported.

A small number of ships have been able to pass through the strait and Iran insists it remains open – just not to the US, Israel or their allies. Source: Associated Press.
