After an exceptional start to the season, Kylian Mbappé missed Real Madrid in important games following a medical error by the club, which examined the player’s wrong leg during an MRI, according to The Athletic website, from The New York Times.
The examination was carried out on the right knee, which showed no signs of injury or complaints of pain, and the attacker was eventually released to perform normally.
According to the publication, Mbappé already showed signs of inflammation in his left knee, which was in fact injured, but continued on the field despite discomfort.
The first signs of the problem came after the 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo on December 7, when the Frenchman suffered a blow to his knee. The injury took him out of the next game, against Manchester City, in the Champions League, but he returned shortly afterwards and played in three matches while still in pain.
It was only at the end of December, during training, that Real decided to carry out a new examination, after noticing the player placing his hands on his left knee while talking to the doctors.
The evaluation, carried out on December 31, initially indicated a sprain and suspected ligament injury. The following day, the club released a medical report and informed that it would adopt conservative treatment.
Mbappé missed the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, but returned to play in the final against Barcelona, even though he was not fully recovered. Afterwards, he played eight matches with a workload controlled by the technical committee.
Dissatisfied with the evolution of the situation, the attacker decided to seek an independent assessment in Paris. It was then that more detailed examinations confirmed a partial rupture of the posterior ligament in his left knee.
Real Madrid did not comment on the case. The episode occurs amid changes in the club’s medical department at the turn of the year, with the departure of professionals in the field.
It is worth remembering that Mbappé was called up by France for the friendly match with the Brazilian team scheduled for the 26th, at 5pm (Brasília time).
