Moraes issues release warrant authorizing Bolsonaro to reside

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), recently ordered the issuance of the release warrant to implement the decision that granted temporary house arrest to former president Jair Bolsonaro.

The document authorizes Bolsonaro to remain at home for 90 days after receiving medical discharge. The former president has been hospitalized since Friday (13) at the DF Star Hospital, in Brasília, where he is recovering from bronchopneumonia.

Moraes also determined that Bolsonaro will once again be monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet. In November last year, before being convicted of the coup plot, the former president was arrested after trying to violate the equipment.

According to the decision, Military Police agents must secure Bolsonaro’s house to prevent escape.

Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison in the coup plot and was serving a sentence in the 19th Military Police Battalion, in the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, in Brasília, known as Papudinha.
