We will never give up force to reunify Taiwan, says China

The spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office – the Chinese government’s arm for Taiwanese affairs –, Zhu Fenglian, said this Wednesday (25 March 2026) that China does not rule out the use of military force to frustrate supporters of the island’s independence.

According to the spokeswoman, Beijing’s stance towards achieving reunification has been to promote a peaceful space, but the government has “full confidence” in its ability to deal with separatist forces across the strait. “We will never promise to renounce the use of force and will maintain the option to take all necessary measures.”disse Zhu.

The statement was made in an interview with journalists. The spokeswoman was asked about the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) report published last week that says China .

The Chinese spokesperson said that it is not up to external agents to give their opinion on the relationship between China and Taiwan, as it is an internal Chinese matter. Zhu declared that the main cause of the situation in the Taiwan Strait is the search by authorities from the DPP – the party that has governed Taiwan since 2016 – for external forces to support the island’s independence.
