March 25 in Istanbul: Message of stability and peace from the Sismanoglio Palace

The Consulate General of Greece celebrated its National Anniversary with particular brilliance and resounding diplomatic messages. In the presence of himself and dignitaries, Ambassador Konstantinos Koutras underlined the role of Greece as a pillar of security in the region, while the evening was “dressed up” with the music of Evanthia Reboutsika and the spirituality of Mount Athos.

The geopolitical dimension: “We produce security, not consume it”

At the center of the celebrations was the speech of the Consul General, Ambassador Mr. Constantinos Koutras, who set the tone for Greek foreign policy at a time of international crises. Mr. Koutras characterized Greece as an “unshakable pillar of stability”, noting that the country defends the European borders with absolute adherence to International Law.

Special mention was made of Greek-Turkish relations, with the Ambassador stressing that the two neighbors share the common responsibility for ensuring the well-being of future generations, always operating with a view to prevention and the protection of peace.

Number of officials and the role of Homogenia

The events, which culminated in the renovated Sismanoglio Mansion, brought together the cream of the City. Among the guests present were:

  • The Ecumenical Patriarch Mr. Bartholomew.
  • Representatives of the Turkish government and local government (Beyoğlu Province, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey).
  • Chief Rabbi David Sevi and members of the consular corps.
  • Prominent businessmen and media representatives from both countries.

Earlier, on the day of the holiday, a Doxology was held at the Holy Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Peran, while a wreath was laid in memory of the fallen in the atrium of the Consulate.

Cultural “marriage”: From Mount Athos to Evanthia Reboutsika

For the third consecutive year, the celebration was combined with an important cultural event. The guests had the opportunity to tour the exhibition of paintings by Giorgos Taxidis, entitled “Mount Athos: Place of Silence”.

“Silence is fullness and light guides the soul,” said Mr. Koutras about the works that convey the atmosphere of the Athonian State to the heart of Istanbul.

The exhibition, which is part of the anniversary events of the Consulate General for the National Day of Greece, can be visited at the Sismanoglio Megaro, in the center of Istanbul, from March 26-April 16, 12:00-16:00 daily.

The evening also held an artistic surprise: the participation of the internationally renowned composer Evanthia Reboutsika. With the sounds of her violin, the artist gave a special, emotional tone to the reception, connecting through music the traditions and the common feeling of the celebration.
