A house arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL)decreed at the beginning of the week by minister Alexandre de Moraes, frustrated the plans of those who thought that the party would soon define the candidate for the Senate for São Paulo.

With the decision, the minister suspended the visits that were scheduled – in the case of the vice-mayor of the capital, Mello Araújo, who was going to Papudinha, in Brasília, on April 18.

Internally, there was great expectation that the definition would take place there. PL members highlight that Mello Araújo is Bolsonaro’s favorite for the positionand that all that was missing was the meeting to seal the vice-mayor’s fate. At the beginning of the month, Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) hosted a lunch for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, at which Mello’s candidacy for the Senate, also present at the meeting, was discussed.

There is still no consensus, however. Mello’s name comes up against the former president’s 2nd son, former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL)who would like to place the current federal deputies Mario Frias (PL-SP) or Marco Feliciano (PL-SP) in the Upper House.

Furthermore, as the column showed exclusively, the name of the president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp), André do Prado (PL), also emerges as an option after being removed from the game for the position of vice-president of governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

In the report, the party president, Valdemar Costa Neto, said that there is still no date for the definition. He also highlighted that the decision will be up to Eduardo and Jair Bolsonaro.
